This is a little different than last time– I'm trying something new out. Please bear with me :) If you think it stinks– let me know :)
It's October?! Despite it all. We are here. We need to celebrate. We need to honor the fact that we still exist in the land of the living with the ability to be reading a newsletter about ritual. Taking joy in simple things is a practice that will help you get through. So please take a moment to find some joy in the fact that you are here. You ready? Let's dig in!
This October is a balance of dark and light. We will be challenged by duality to be honest about what we are creating and whether it serves us and the larger communities we participate in. We will also be challenged to explore how we are and have been using our personal power.
The intensity of this month beckons us to change. Change can hurt. Change can be scary. Change can be hard. But, deep change is necessary. The changes we seek on individual and collective levels will come about if we are willing to let go and create something new.
Notice, I said willing. You don't have to change everything at once. Just be willing to follow higher guidance in making the changes you need to make:) Thankfully Mercury retrograde through Scorpio will help us do just that. We are more than capable of doing the work that needs to be done!
Despite all this heaviness, light is with us. Healing energies of wisdom, Divine perspective, balance and harmony are all present this month. It’s important to appreciate them when they come forth, because there is a great deal of darkness as well.
A few spiritual practices for the month
Note: doing all of these may be a bit exhausting. Please pick what resonates with you and you can commit to as a regular practice (weekly or daily) for the month.
Honor the Divine Feminine in the form of Mother Earth.
The Divine Feminine anchors creative, healing space that will birth humanity anew. You can honor the Divine Feminine by offering a libation of water to Mother Earth. Hold a glass of water to your heart as you speak words of loving gratitude into the water. Then pour the water out onto the Earth, while stating that you offer your loving gratitude to Mother Earth and are open to receiving her guidance.
Honor the Divine Feminine in the form that most resonates with you.
You can also choose to light a candle, make an offering or say a prayer of gratitude to honor of the Divine Feminine as She resonates with you. Mother Mary, Maman Brigitte, Mawu, Nana Buluku, Kali, Saint Brigid, Danu and Freya are all the Divine Feminine. Please honor and connect with whatever Goddess, Saint or Feminine Energy that you have a relationship with. If you don't have a relationship with any Goddess Energy, you can always honor Mother Earth or the Divine Feminine as she is.
We need to take inventory of our values and begin to work towards values that support the highest and best within us all. Our collective values are killing the planet and each other. Unless you are indigenous or living off grid and not participating in capitalism we are responsible for this mess. Mercury's retrograde through Scorpio can show us where we have been giving up our power, how to reclaim our power to fix this mess. Mercury's retrograde through Scorpio will also connect us to deeper needs that are not being met by our current ways of being. We just have to be willing and open to seeing and changing.
Be open to change
Be open, be open, be open. Open your mind to a different way of perceiving and open your heart to a different way of being. The more open you are to change, the easier things will be for you. Big changes are coming whether we want them or not. With all this change, we may have to give some things up, but know you will be blessed for letting go.
Monthly Ritual: Take a bath
At least once this month, ideally every week, I suggest you take a bath. If you don't have a bath tub– soak your feet. Depending on what your focus is, you can work with different herbs to support you.
Bath for letting go in preparation for change: Try some Epsom Salts mixed with Marjoram, Basil and Arnica.
Bath for connecting with Divine Feminine: Elderflower, Jasmine and White Roses mixed with some milk and honey. No salt is need here! If you are vegan, coconut milk is an awesome substitution for cow's milk. I would not try this with Goat's milk. I think almond milk could work too, but I've never played with Almond milk in this way. If you choose this bath, Friday is an ideal day to do it :)
Daily cup of Tea
Rosemary and yarrow will support your focus and your boundaries.
Rosemary by herself will connect to you the Divine Feminine presence and empower you to do what needs to be done!
Hawthorne berry tea also deserves a mention here. It is great for healing heart wounds that may be holding us back and also supports grief work.
Essential oils to play with
Geranium & Bergamot will support you in letting go and being open to moving on from the present state of things.
Lavender & Bergamot or Frankincense & Bergamot will keep things bright so you are able to keep moving and not give in to overwhelm or sadness.
Cedar wood, Frankincense and Bergamot will keep you grounded and the energy around you light, holy and clear so you can be Divinely guided :)
These oils can be placed in a diffuser and burned (2-3 drops each oil in water), or diluted in a carrier oil (like jojoba or olive) and put on your wrist. Should you decide to put the oils on your wrist, be mindful that Bergamot can make your skin very sensitive to the sun. Also please remember you can diffuse essential oils too often. Try to limit this practice to no more than three to four times a week.
This is a lot, do what you can. There is a lot going on this month. Things will pick up a bit. But know that you are capable of creating space that supports you in making the changes you need to make for yourself and those you love!
You got this! I'll see you next month!
